Transition & Routines Poems:

Getting Ready to Listen
Beth Knoedelseder

When I get ready to listen
I do a body check
I get in the listening position It only takes a sec.

Eyes are looking Ears are open
Hands and feet are still
I shake, shake, shake, the wiggles
out
That’s the listening drill!

Name on My Paper
Beth Knoedelseder

When I receive my paper
I know just what to do.
I write my name in the right spot
 So teacher knows who’s who!

Lining Up
Beth Knoedelseder

Light as a feather
We walk together
Quiet and straight
Our class looks grrrreat!

Getting Ready to Write
Beth Knoedelseder

Let’s get ready to write
And let our thoughts take flight!
I sit up straight
My pencil’s just so-
I’m ready to write everything I know.

The Place Value Village
There's a special place where
the digits stay,
the digits from 0 to 9.
they live in Place Value Village
that has a unique design.
Each place has a specific system
the digits happily obey
Once the number is higher than 9
to the next house they make their way.

Place Value Village

Once upon a time,
There was family of 9.
Then grandma moved in,
And we made 10.
Since the rule states no more than 9
Off to Hamilton Apartments
With the same design.

Click, clack, step, step
Here we go from right to left

We moved in our trunks
And saw 10 in each bunk
We ran through the hall
There were 9 rooms in all.

Another family of 10 came and rang the bell
But the rules stated
Move on to Century Hotel.

Click, clack, step, step
Here we go from right to left

The Century rooms were large
With 100 in each.
It was luxurious and fine.
But the main rule to follow
Was no more than 999!

Place Value Village is a special place
The digits show their values
In their place value space.
