POETRY

Meet the Punctuation Pals!

Picture
Picture
            Period Pete

At the end of a thought or statement
  stands Period Pete.
He's just like a red stop sign at the end of the street.
He tells you when a thought has come to and end
And a brand new statement is about to begin.

Picture
   Clarissa Comma

There's a small little sign we use quite a bit
to separate the items on a long, long list.
Her name is Clarissa Comma, and she's seen all around.
In today's date, or a greeting, are some places where she's found.
When you see Clarissa Comma, remember to pause and slow down.
She's like a little speed bump while your'e traveling though town.
The meaning can change greatly if she is placed wrong.
So be careful when  you use her, she is small but mighty strong!

Picture
    Exclamation Mark Ziggedy Zeke
  This is the Exclamation Mark.
  His name is Ziggedy Zeke.
  While standing over Period Pete,
he tells you how to speak.
You can be EXCITED or extremely MAD.
You can be totally SHOCKED when things go bad.
  So,
Ziggedy Zeke tells you how to speak
  While standing over Period Pete.

Picture
    Question Mark Joe
When you have a question about what you want to know,
At the end of the question stands Question Mark Joe.
Sitting underneath his two small feet,
is is good ol' pal Period Pete.
Together they tell you to STOP.
The only difference is the Question Mark's on top.
  He's used when you ask,
  "How do you do?"
  "What is your name?"
  "Is that the color blue?"
So when you have a question, you know who to place right there.
Question Mark Joe with Period Pete
                              They're such a helpful pair!

Picture
   Quotation Mark Family

We're the Quotation Mark Family, and we're here to stay.
We let you know what a person has to say.
We wrap the words from the very top
So you know where the spoken words start and stop.
